This is a new technique I've been exploring, inspired by 19th century England Tunbridge ware.
Starting with a spreadsheet I design a pattern and assign an appropriate color to each cell that
translates to a specific layer of dyed veneer. The layers are exactly sequenced and glued
together, then cut into 1/42" thick strips that are precisely glued to other similarly constructed
layers. If executed properly I get a solid block with the design running through its length that
results in a small edition. The process takes about six weeks and the finished piece features
about 2,000 individual facets/square inch. More designs planned.
